Recommendations for either Loire Valley or Provence (Avignon)

Planning for late September 2023. After 6 days in Paris, looking to spend a few days out in the countryside. Interested in opinions on whether to go see Chateau's or medieval "wall" city. Loire Valley would be a car rental and Avignon would be a train trip. Thanks.
