Recommendations 4 6-night France stay 1st week May

So we are looking to go to France for 6 nights in early May after 10 days near Frankfurt in late April......hopefully driving no more than 8 hours from Frankfurt, Germany - less is great too.

Does anyone have a suggestion? At first we thought about Nice but it is so far, and being pregnant I'd rather return to Frankfurt by car and have a simple flight home from there.

I am overwhelmed with all the choices. We are not looking for a city like Paris but something relaxing, country-ish....have good food. Small towns to see etc. If that makes sense.

If you're return flight is from Frankfurt, you're exactly right: Nice is too far.
Stay in northeastern France: Reims is 75 miles east of Paris, in other words, between Paris and Frankfurt.
If you want to do a day trip from Reims to Paris, you can do it on the 200 mph train and be close to the Paris center in about 45 minutes--a convenient day trip.
Other day trips from Reims are:
Epernay (champagne!)
If you have a car, Beaune and Dijon are do-able as day trips from Reims.

Or you can home base in Beaune or Dijon, instead of Reims.

Strasbourg and the Rhine River Valley are even closer to Frankfurt.

Or you could homebase in the Normandy area.

None of the above suggestions will have you too far from Frankfurt, certainly not as far as Nice.
