Can anyone recommend a guide to take us from the parking area outside of Mont Saint Michel to the island? All the websites say it is very dangerous without one because of the tides and quicksand. They have quite a few listed on one tourist information site I visited, but I was preferring a recommendation.
Thank you.
The only thing that is dangerous is if you try to get there by walking across the flats. There is no danger from tides and quicksands if you drive and park in the designated parking lot. There is a free shuttle that will take you from the lot to the island, as the parking lots are about a mile away.
Yes, the new bridge officially opened in Dec 2014, there's a very frequent shuttle bus from the parking areas. No quicksand!
Thank you all. We went to St. Michel and road the shuttle bus across the bridge. It was misting rain, but I just considered it adding to the mystique. We loved the Abbey. My daughter and I happened to enter the sanctuary during some sort of service with the nuns singing chant-like songs that were so beautiful. It made the whole day for me. The town below the abbey, however, was one we could not wait to get out of. Thank you for your help.
