Hi- We are planning to spend 3 nights 4 days in Provence area. We will be taking a train back from Avignon to Paris. Could any of you please recommend a good base plus any specific hotel or bnb to explore the luberon villages + uzes + pont du guard. We are not looking to splurge on the hotels/ bnb since we would want to be out exploring the towns. Our max budget per night would be $100. Thanks.
When is your trip? Especially if it's in the summer, you may have great difficulty finding something for $100, which is under 90€. The specific dates matter. Special events (and possibly also weekends) cause price spikes. As a solo traveler for whom a tiny single room is acceptable (though I do not do Airbnb), I paid over 120€/night for my first 3 nights in Avignon. I couldn't find anything affordable in Arles.
Are we correct in assuming that you'll have a rental car? That makes a huge difference when compiling a list of possible base cities.
We stayed at http://www.alombredupalais.com/bedandbreakfast-avignon.htm in Avignon three years ago and loved it. The location is spectacular -- the living room and breakfast room look directly onto the terrace of the Palace of the Popes. Parking is available in a deck nearby, under the terrace. the hostess, Mme. Sabine Ferrand, is a delight.
Thanks for responding. We r going to b there around mid sept @acraven and yes we will be renting a car :)
@SherrieF - the bnb looks great. I hv written to them so will wait for their response :)
You may also want to consider renting a private room in someone's home from airbnb. I've done this many times and it can be FAR cheaper than a hotel or BnB. I've met lovely people this way and it's nice to stay with a local person that can point you in the direction of great places to eat, etc.
