My wife, adult daughter and I will be driving from Carcassonne to Paris in a few weeks and are looking for a stopping place to split the trip into two days. We are not sure where we should stay. We have considered staying in the Dordogne, but are open to any suggestions. We would prefer a hotel with a restaurant or a town with good options for dinner. Thanks!
I would stick with the Dordogne. Sarlat-la-Canéda is a very charming town with lots of resources, or smaller villages are nearby.
Laura has nailed it I think (of course, she's a pro). Sarlat is pretty close to your halfway point, not far from the autoroute, and filled with food and lodging. Or one of the nearby villages like Beynac or LaRoque-Gageac or Domme or Castelnaud. The Dordogne is worth several days to a week, and your one-night stand will show you why!
Can't go wrong with any of those towns. We recently spent a week in Beynac, and loved it. But many years ago we made a one-night stop in Sarlat as part of our drive back to Paris, and loved it.
