Recommend a hotel in French Riviera

Not to busy. 40th anniversary first time. Touring the area mostly by car. End of September. Currently considering in Chateu de la Chèvre d’Or Eze. Concerned about hills and far?

It is a wonderful experience, a terrific view and a top rated restaurant (and another nearby), but the village is quite small. During the day, there will be a lot of day trippers (less so at the end of September) but it will quiet down at night. There are some steps within the village , but you will have a full valet service to the entrance of the village to park your car. At that price point, you have a number of wonderful choices. For more isolated properties, perhaps the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat (Four Seasons)?

Great choice however, $4000 per night is out of our price range. All the lower price rooms are gone. We will keep an eye on it. Thank you.

I apologize in advance for having a strong opinion against staying in a perche village just because of the hassle in driving in/out to start and end your day.

Take a look at hotels in Saint Paul de Vence or nearby Vence.

Saint Paul de Vence is also a perche village, popular same as Eze but maybe slightly less so. Expect both villages to be packed with tourists in September.

La Chèvre d’Or has two Michelin stars which is why the hotel is so expensive. Have not checked, but I am sure there are other Michelin starred restaurants in the area. See which ones are open for lunch therefore more reasonably priced.

If you are looking for the dining experience, take a look at La Colombe d’Or in Saint Paul de Vence. I dined there for lunch about 10 years ago and had a great experience. They also have a small number of hotel rooms.

IMO, I would avoid staying in a perche village but would opt for another village that is more accessible for driving in and out. You can always visit the perch villages saving time negotiating the parking.

Are you flying home from Nice? Airport is about 45 minutes from Eze and Saint Paul de Vence.

Take a look at Le Mas de Pierre, part of the Relais & Chateau group. It is located outside the Saint-de-Vence ramparts so easy in and out. It looks like they have a Michelin starred restaurant and availability late September at about half the price of Chateau de la Chèvre.

You can easily visit both Eze and Saint-Paul-de-Vence.

Ah, that is a bit more of a challenge.

Maybe you could provide a few more details and criteria.

Are you only looking for a medieval hilltop village? Would you consider a hotel closer to the Mediterranean with sea view? Are you looking for a hotel with an upscale restaurant?

Sea view number one. Restaurant not as important as there are many restaurants around and we would probably would be out and about enjoying the various different villages.

Initially we were staying and Izzy what we’ve been told that a bit out of the way a lot of climbing also difficult with a car.

As Far as a Mountain top. With a water view yes, as long as it doesn’t take more than 15 minutes to get down off the mountain to travel to locations. This trip is a is the sightseeing trip for us as we’ve never been in that area.

Thank you for your efforts

Look at Antibes and Cap Ferrat. I personally would not want to stay way up in Eze.

You may want to look at hotels nearer the sea, you will have a larger selection with sea views, easier access and you can drive to the hilltop villages to tour parking outside and walking in.

Take a look at Hotel le Roquebrune in Roquebrune Cap Martin. It’s only about a 25 minute drive to Eze. Lots of restaurants around and not as jammed up with visitors as Cannes and Nice.

Heads up, Hotel Le Roquebrune may not have a restaurant, website is a little confusing in this regard with the exception of breakfast. Also no good dining options within walking distance as per comments.

Saint Jean Cap Ferrat will put you closer to Eze, about 30 minutes vs Antibes which will be closer to an hour. Pricey for water views.

Correction.

La Belle Plage is in Cannes, not Cap Ferrat.

This location puts you at about an hour drive to Eze and about the same to Saint Paul de Vence.

Check out Mougins - a charming Medieval artisan village about 20 minutes from Cannes with many restaurants.
