Reasonably Priced Paris Hotels

I'll be in Paris for the first week or so of October - any recommendations for a nice, reasonably priced hotel (yes, that is a relative term in Paris)? Nothing fancy, but comfortable and with a good location.

Merci -

Hi, John! It would really be helpful if you could share your target budget per night. That way you will get responses more targeted to your needs.

I’m headed out tomorrow and we are booked at Hotel le Regent. Reviews are good, location is good, and price in US dollars at current exchange rate worked out to be $210 a night. Give me a few days and I can share how it all worked out.

Looks like Paris’ Fashion “Week,” conventions and the Grape Harvest Festival along with exhibitions during early October are impacting the availability of “reasonably” priced accommodations.
I usually stay at the Hotel de la Bretonnerie for about €230 per night and nightly rates for the first week in October are running about €525. Ouch!

Look at the IBIS chain. They have hotels in various price ranges

Citadines hotels offer good value. The St. Germain location is right on the Seine.

Accor owns both the budget Ibis hotel chain and the mid-range Mercure hotel chain. Both have dozens and dozens of Paris properties with a lot of availability during the first week of October.

Good luck!

I can add some perspective on the Le Regent. I first stayed there in 1980. Super cheap, toilet down the hall, bathtub down a floor. But I was young and in Paris. Fast forward to 2022. My wife and I stayed there twice during a Europe trip. Extensively upgraded. En-suite full bathrooms! Woo hoo! Close enough to Metro, at a very happening five way intersection

Now they even have a tiny elevator big enough for one person and a bag (we were not doing RS carryon only). In 1980 I stayed on the top floor (cheap room). Now those rooms are the more expensive ones but of course I had to have the same exact view! Rooms were clean, spacious for Paris. Breakfast was minimal but adequate: juice, coffee, yogurt, croissants to die for. You can eat in the small basement breakfast room or they will bring it to your room which is what we did since there was space for a small table and chairs. In one room the floor sloped just a little, not surprising since the building is hundreds of years old.

I think people have “discovered” Le Regent. A couple weeks ago I tried to make reservations for five nights next spring and they were already booked up!

If there is any downside, it might be street noise. Didn’t bother us, but it is a pretty lively neighborhood. I don’t recall AC, we didn’t need it during our stay although it got warm for spring.

We loved a tiny restaurant nearby, La Jacobine. Ate there twice. In a narrow arcaded pedestrian street that screams medieval. Traditional French, friendly personable service.
