We arrive in CDG early on a Thursday, and will be immediately leaving on Friday for a weekend trip to Normandy, via train & car rental (to pick up in Caen or Bayeaux) , before returning to Paris the following week. Need a place to stay for just one night, perhaps walk the Seine or sit under the Eiffel Tower, but primarily to rest before the weekend trip. The usual: clean, simple, safe, convenient. We thought somewhere near the train station or a short distance via Metro.
Suggestions?
I just stayed at the Hotel Astra Opéra last week on my way back from Normandy (part of the Astrotel chain). It was fine, clean, close, and had free breakfast (which I couldn't enjoy because I had to leave too early in the morning). It was probably a 5–7 minute walk from Gare Saint Lazare. I dropped my bags off and walked a short ways to the Jardin des Toileries and the Seine in the afternoon, and found a couple of great cafés/brasseries near the hotel.
The Grand Hotel de Normandie is practically right across the street on rue d'Amsterdam, and is air-conditioned. You can drop your luggage and just wander around town till your room is ready.
You can access either the RER or Metro in Gare Saint Lazare.
