We will be arriving in the Lille area of France to spend a few days exploring the WW1 war memorials (Vimy Ridge etc.) We are looking for reasonably priced accommodation. We won't be spending much time there, just a clean place to sleep in a location not in the middle of the city. Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

I guess you are travelling by car. In which case, a big city like Lille is not where I would stay.
I suggest Ieper (aka Ypres). Nice town to walk around, WW1 sights in the town and surrounding area.

You can look for chambres d’hôtes (B&B’s) near Vimy or nearby Arras depending the places you plan to visit. A good and well known organisation is Gîtes de France. There is also an English search option but gives other, lesser results.
