Re: Getting replacement passport a la robertmarron

I've been following poor robertmarron's stolen passport saga. I'm glad it all worked out for him.

However, I decided to start a new post to report on some of the points that were brought up.
Since I'm traveling a bit this year and next, I went to the U.S. embassy websites for each country I'm visiting and clicked on Passport.
In general
1. You need to fill out Form DS-11 beforehand. Print and bring but don't sign it. It's essentially the passport application.
2. Fill out Form DS-64 which it a stolen/lost passport report.
3. Police report if available.
4. One 2x2 photo
5. All available ID such as: birth certificate, driver's license, photocopy of missing passport or an expired US passport.

On the application it states
Proof of Identity: "You may submit items such as the following containing your signature AND a photograph that is a good likeness of you: previous or current U.S. passport book; previous or current U.S. passport card; driver's license (not temporary or learner's license); Certificate of Naturalization; Certificate of Citizenship; military identification; or federal, state, or municipal government employee identification card."

So, TC of Atlanta, I think the Global Entry card is not sufficient ID from the above reading because it has no signature. But I did make a copy along with my driver's license anyway. Hey, it couldn't hurt. The other direction says "all available ID".

I also found each embassy has some minor quirks on hours and such. Some will not allow walk-ins. You have to e-mail for an appointment even if your passport was stolen or lost. Now, I'm more prepared. I hope none of us will need to ever use this information.

Michelle, Thanks for the information. Just to be safe I guess we'll continue to take a drivers license even though we always use public transit in Europe.

Michelle,

Thank you for compiling this information all in one place.

I wonder what they do if you don't have another form of ID? I have global entry so they have my fingerprints. I wonder if that would be sufficient to identify me. Off to search through the state department website.
