RE: Direct Flight

We are planning a trip to France for ten days. We would like to visit Paris and southern France (Nice). Is there a direct, non-stop flight from Nice to the east coast of the US? Any suggestions how to set-up the itinerary? We would like to spend three to four days in Nice at the end of the trip.

Doesn't seem to be at this point.

Try googling "nonstop flights from nice to usa"

When you are looking for flights be careful about the distinction between direct and non stop. All non stop flights are direct but not all direct flights are non stop. A direct flight is nothing other than a unique flight number connecting pairs of cities. A direct flight from NCE to IAD could stop at CDG.

At different times, Delta has had a non stop from JFK to NCE.

I recently found this excellent web site, FlightsFrom.com.

Tells you everywhere there are direct flights to and from a given airport. Lots of great details.

https://www.flightsfrom.com/NCE will show you flights to/from Nice. Looks like JFK and Montreal are the only options. Delta appears to have seasonal service between NCE and JFK starting in mid-April.

Lane, thank you for sharing that website! This is useful in many ways. Currently I have both a Delta & Alaska companion ticket credit card and will be dropping one. This is a nice summary to see which one we should keep per their non-stop destinations.

The entire east coast? I fly out of JFK and can tell you that Delta flies nonstop between the two cities -- one flight per day in both directions.

Any suggestions how to set-up the itinerary?

It's a breeze. If you choose Delta, go to the Delta website and buy your tickets directly from them. Don't use a 3rd party website. The way you set up your flight itinerary for domestic flights is the identical procedure for setting up your itinerary for international flights.

Looking on the Delta site for flights next April, there is a non-stop available JFK-NCE

But what about NCE-JFK? I am not seeing that option on the Delta site. Then again, maybe I picked the wrong day of the week.

Looks like Delta starts their non-stop service April 15th between JFK-NCE, (NCE-JFK)

Check via calendar view. A lot of times the flights are only three or four times a week until the season picks up. I’ve flown Delta direct JFK to Nice in February. Of course it makes a return trip to JFK.

We looked into the JFK-NCE direct flight on Delta, thanks to a suggestion from Bets. We ended up not liking the return connections that much. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was a choice between a too short connection time at JFK or a very long one that got us home way too late.

We ended up taking direct flights between Paris and Indianapolis. Obviously you'd use an airport closer to you. We had a 4 hour connection in Paris, and that was plenty of time. We would probably have made a shorter 2 hour one available but I didn't want to risk it. There were 5 of us. We would not have been willing to split up to make different flights later in the day if we'd missed the first connection. CDG did have a streamlined immigration line for connecting flights, so that went quickly. The 4 hour connection was a bit long but not unreasonable.

The flights between Nice and Paris are short and easy. As was the Nice airport.

Returning, we had 2 hour connection in Paris. This was enough, but no time to dilly dally. We did have time to use the restroom and get coffee. They lined us up early for departure, because they had exit passport control right there in line. A guy with a tablet asking questions, etc.

We had a choice of 2 or 4 hour connections at CDG on our return. Four would have been too long, and we would have had to get up too early. If we'd missed the flight home it would have taken a day away from work, not vacation.

If the flight home from Nice to JFK works for you, great. Just don't be too concerned about a connection through CDG. Initially I'd wanted to avoid that but it worked out fine. Although it does make you a bit antsy when you land and 20 minutes later are still taxiing to your gate. At one point we had to go outside and get on a bus to get to a different terminal. We hadn't had to do that to catch the Nice flight going, but returning we did.

Try Googleflights or Skyskanner- both are good- you can also try Orbitz, Priceline, Expedia as well.
