Raining in Paris and May 1 holiday

We arrive 29April for 5 days, it's raining and wondering about the value of museum pass. The plan was to do a lot of walking, Eiffel Tower, Champs Élysées the first day ,then 2 day museum pass and go to Versailles and the museums. The May 1 holiday messes that up, assume everything is closed . Is the Gallery Lafayette closed on the first too? Any suggestions for May 1 in the rain?

Weather forecasts may change, so check them again before you leave. I wouldn't buy the Museum Pass until you identify which museums are open that you will visit. I do see the Louvre, d'Orsay, and Musee de l'Armee all listing May 1 as a closed day. Churches should be open. Your hotel staff may also have some advice.

jan 1, may1 and dec 25 are the 3 days when almost everything closes in France. The Eiffel Tower is however open that day as are the Seine cruises. And of course churches, parks and gardens and such are available. Mostly it showers in Paris so that a light rain jacket and umbrella are all you need. It is sort of rare to have rain all day but common to have the occasional rain shower. Weather reports this far out are not reliable, but they tend to be so a day or so ahead. I once almost canceled my reservation for a guinguette in May because the forecast was for many days that it would be heavy rain. I am glad I didn't because it turned out to be a bright sunny day.

Chateau Malmaison, a short trip by bus from La Defense, is open May 1. Google it to see of you are interested. Also, Musee Andre Jacquemart, in Paris, is open every day of the year. It's a wonderful museum, one of my favourites. You could do a Seine cruise even if it is raining. The boats have under-roof seating. I think the Musee Nissim Camondo is open May 1 also.

Agreeing with all of the above - and another suggestion that could keep you walking - have you considered the Passages - covered arcades in several places in central Paris... you'd mostly be dry and entertained, and walking.

That's what I did one wet day on my last trip to Paris.

kelbo,

an old cowboy saying...."worse day in the saddle beats the best day at the office". Id rather be in Paris in a rain than at home with the same.

When i comes to museums passes and such, do the math. If it pencils out for you go for it. It did for me, but a + was that it bypassed the ticket lines for many things i saw.

happy trails.

For the "Passages" is there another name for these? I'd like to look them up, but don't find anything under "Passages"
thanks
