My husband and I will be traveling in the Alsace region of France in fall 2025 and would like to also visit the Mosel Valley in Germany before flying back to the US from the Frankfurt airport. We would like to travel by train from Colmar to Frankfurt and then on to the Mosel Valley (place still undetermined at this point), but are unfamiliar with the railway system in that area and would appreciate any guidance, suggested websites, etc in which to look. Also, are there any regulations that we need to be aware of when traveling between European countries? Finally, we plan to rent a car in Colmar and spend several nights in a smaller town nearby (place also still undetermined at this point), so any advice on renting a car in Colmar would be appreciated. It looks like service between Colmar and Frankfurt is via Basel or Strasbourg. You can book on Bahn.de.

You can go Colmar to Strasbourg to Frankfurt. We have done that trip from Strasbourg to Frankfurt. You can also grab the FlixBus from Strasbourg to Frankfurt Airport. It is a very nice bus, and a comfortable ride. We rented our car in Strasbourg when we were doing day trips as having a car in Colmar was difficult.
