Matt,
In 2017 we stayed in a small room at a B and B in Le Conquet, La Maison de Neuilly. It was very basic The B and B was simple and funky, with lots of the heavy and old and interestingly-carved furniture I find typical of the area.....an interesting and pleasant experience, with a good bteakfast. We walked a short way to look at the ocean, then back to the small square, and to see the small church there. While at Le Conquet, we drove to Lampaul-Plouarzel and to Pluguffan to visit various family members, and to Quimper for a stroll around town and a meal. Personally, I like the "land's end" feel of that part of Bretagne. The majesty of the Atlantic as seen from Finisterre is thrilling and humbling at the same time. I can imagine being in the 18th century, standing next to the ocean, especially on a somewhat grey and windy day (not uncommon!)
And I think Quimper is underappreciated by American tourists. We were there in early May, but the summer offers some fetes and festivals which you might see. The main one is the Festival du Cornouaille, in the latter part of July. I hope you are there during that time. (We miss so many things like that, traveling in the spring and fall.)
Our next stop was Pluneret, where we stayed in a chambre d'hote before seeing the dolmen at Carnac the next day and heading off to Saumur. Quimper definitely over Brest! It has a lovely cathedral too.
I'm happy to hear you are spending more than just a couple of days in Bretagne. It is a magnificent and mystical place!
Amusez-vous bien!
