Quiet Hotels in Paris

Hello
My husband and I are traveling to Paris in late August and are now searching hotels with RS recommendations. What places are quiet neighborhoods? I have a hard time sleeping with noise especially traffic. We would rather spend more for a quaint neighborhood hotel with AC that is peaceful. Thank you in advance for any advice!!

I assume big cities are noisy (we stayed in a very quaint out of the way neighborhood this fall with virtually no traffic noise and still had the bottles from the restaurant nearby banging into the recycle at night and in the morning and construction noise all day. ) I would be proactive about traveling with a white noise machine if you are bothered by city noise as well as ear plugs. That said, often rooms on a courtyard are quieter.

We always book Henri IV Rive Gauche near Notre Dame on the Latin Quarter side when we are in Paris. It has double glazed windows (with a nice view on to a church) and AC and is very well located for transport and walking to many important sites e.g. Notre Dame, the Louvre, Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens, Orsay etc for a few examples. It is on a bit of a side street in a busy part of town and we did not find traffic noise to be an issue.

It's hard to get away from noise in Paris (or any other dense city), but my wife and I rented an Airbnb apartment last spring near Place d'Italie and found the traffic noise to be very quiet at night. The area is very "local" - not many tourists - with lots of "local" restaurants and cafes - a great experience. I saw many hotels in the area that might bear investigating. If you're concerned about being out of the center of things, three metro lines run through Place d'Italie, so it is very convenient to metro or walk everywhere. In fact, we used a metro station 100 yards from our apartment when we departed for CDG.

Hotel Relais Bosquet is near Rue Cler. It was lovely, air conditioned and very quiet. The breakfast was also very good.

I don't know if any of these hotels have air conditioning, but we've stayed at the Hotel Cluny Sorbonne in the 5th, the Hotel Londres Eiffel in the 7th, and the Hotel du Levant in the 5th. In all 3 hotels, when I booked the rooms I requested a room on the courtyard side. We heard no traffic or street noise at all.

That said, be aware that there could be noisy guests above, below, or next to you at any point during your stay. I'm a light sleeper and am very sensitive to noise. I always request a courtyard room and always worry about noisy guests.

We liked the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in the Latin Quarter, up a fairly quiet street and surrounding a little garden. Don't know about AC, which you probably will want in August even if it's quiet enough outside to open windows. For any hotel, try for a high floor (hopefully with elevator) and/or facing the back or courtyard rather than the street.

Hotel des Grandes Ecoles is not air conditioned. Not my favorite location, but it was quiet.

We had the most nightmarish night of our travel lives at the Hotel des Grande Ecoles one June on a hot day on an upper floor with virtually no ventilation and no AC. Our room measured near 100F by late afternoon and did not cool down to a comfortable level all night although the outside did cool down. This would not be a good choice for August. It has a lovely garden and is fairly quiet -- but not August with no AC.

Hotel Saint Louis en l'ile has a/c and double-glazed windows and is a nice hotel in the center of Paris. I recommend asking for a room on the top floor, which is larger and quieter. This area is normally filled with tourists during the day, but is quiet at night. There are also two other hotels on the island within the same price range with the same amenities - Hotel des Deux-Iles and Hotel de Lutece.

Staying in the area near the Eiffel Tower is not very interesting if you like to walk to the things most people like to see. It will be very quiet at night, though.

Agree with Alan above. Hotel Relais Bosquet has AC, is nice and clean, and VERY quiet. In fact, it was way to quiet for my tastes. I like a little more action, but it's right next to Rue Cler, the markets, restaurants, etc.

Just a head's up, wherever you decide to end up -
Nobody can escape the noise of the garbage and glass-recycling trucks!
Bring earplugs.

I stayed at the Hotel Legend St Germain on rue des Rennes and it had a/c, also double-glazed windows so even with a room facing the street--with balcony and double doors that opened onto it, so lovely!-and it was fairly quiet at night, though I never travel without earplugs. In the 6th arr. so a very nice area and close to a couple of metro stations and an easy walk to many sights, plus lots of restaurants, though no bar scene so no noisy, drunken revelers on the streets. I would definitely stay there again.

For starters, I never travel without ZZZquil, a sleep mask, foam earplugs and downloaded white noise apps on my phone. I employ all simultaneously. And wine of course.
This April, we are staying at the Hotel St. Dominique in the 7th for a few reasons: my husband is obsessed with the hot dog gratinee across the street at Nelly Julien, the hotel was well reviewed for being quiet if you select a courtyard room on a high floor in the back, the rate was reasonable and that area is a good location for what we will be doing in Paris on this trip (Versailles, the 16th/Marmottan and the 9th). We do not need easy access to the center or eastern parts of Paris on this trip. I prefer to rent an apartment, but this is only a 4 day trip tagged onto a London trip, so this hotel will hopefully suffice...and be quiet enough...it's Paris, I'm realistic it won't be super quiet, so I arrive prepared!

The Hotel Chopin is famously inside a nineteenth century shopping arcade and has no street frontage. However, the building isn't especially well insulated inside so you may get noise from adjacent rooms.

I stayed at Hotel Edouard VII on Avenue de l'Opera last year in a room facing the Avenue and it was quiet with the windows closed. Windows open was a totally different story. Same thing with Hotel Odeon Saint Germain. Hotel de Varenne is also very quiet and you enter the hotel through a courtyard so that helps. Hotel Parc Saint Severin (not to be confused with Hotel Europe Saint Severin) is on a quiet pedestrian only street and is generally very quiet but located right in heart of the Latin Quarter. All of these suggestions have air conditioning. Hotel Ares Paris (also with AC) has beautiful rooms and very comfy beds and is in a quiet location in the 15th near metro hub, La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle, but it is not an especially central location.
