4 of us are flying from the states to Germany but have a 12 hour layover in Paris at this airport. We are going to go into the city to explore. I have a couple questions if anyone can help.
1. Is there somewhere to store luggage at the airport?
2. If we are taking an Air France HOP flight to Germany from Paris how much time do we need to allow when we return to the airport to get cleared and to our gate? Is 2 hours enough time?

Where are you flying to in Germany that you need a 12 hour layover (unless you purposely
set it up this way)?
You could take a train after you land and be in most places in Germany in 14-15 hours.
But, given your plan, yes, there is a place to store luggage in CDG:
There are probably left luggage places in downtown Paris as well, but it depends on what
station you get off at and whether you can come back to the same station before you head
back to the airport.
As to when you need to be back at the airport after your flight, well, that depends on the line
at the luggage storage place, and which terminal your outbound flight is in. Neither of which
you will know much ahead of time. CDG is a large airport so your walk may be non-trivial.
You should not have to clear immigration again, but will have to go through security. Not to
mention that after an overnight flight + 6-8 hours in Paris, your group may be pretty tired and
prone to making a mistake or two. So I would err on the side of caution. This is assuming
you have carry-on bags only. If you have to retrieve your bags and then recheck them, I'd
add an hour.

- Arriving at the airport two hours before your flight departs is not enough time in my opinion if you have to get baggage from the luggage storage. HOP uses Terminal 2G which is a remote terminal that can only be reached via shuttle from Terminal 2F. I hate rushing so I’d allow some extra time for things like extremely long waits at the luggage place, security, issues with the shuttle to Terminal 2G, and if it applies to you, getting lost in an unfamiliar airport.

You could go into the city on the RER, then take the METRO.
Suggest no more than 5 hours away from the airport.
Study the airport map and know which terminal your next flight departs from.
