Questions for a Paris Metro expert

I am going to the Bo St Martin Theatre. I believe I want Republique. However it has three entry/exits. Will one be marked St Martin Blvd so I exit closest to the theater? Also, going to Montmarte I always exit at Abbesses. I was wondering if Lamarck-Caulaincourt is a viable alternative? Thank you in advance for all advice.

Every metro station has on the wall somewhere a 'Plan du Quartier' with the immediate surrounding streets and the exits from the metro so if you are not exactly sure which exit you want and where to walk you can check on this map.

Our favorite Montmartre stroll is from Lamarck-Caulaincourt. You take an elevator to the surface (important, it is very deep) and then exit the single exit and turn right and walk a block or so up the slope to Caulaincourt and turn right and walk a block or so and cross the street to Avenue Junot and walk up Avenue Junot. This is a street filled with villas (private residential gated communities) and interesting modern architecture. Towards the top of this slope there is a playground to the left and a square ahead with the famous statue of the man walking through the wall. At this intersection you can:
1. walk through the playground and out the other side onto a nice treelined path and go right and head towards Sacre Coeur. or
2. go down the street to the left till you come to the Vineyard and turn right and walk up a pretty street till you come to the back of Sacre Coeur and then walk along it to the front with the views over the city (this is kind of where you end up with 1 but you get the nice little path first)
3. Continue straight ahead and you come to the tourist trappy Place du Tertre with the souvenir stands, restaurants and 'artists'. and the pickpockets.

We avoid 3 but you might want to see that area on a first visit --

Thank you so much. That's exactly what I wanted to know. This is not my first trip to Montmartre but this will make an excellent and different way to approach it. I will print your directions and decide which walk to take when we get there.

At République, not all exits are accessible from every line, but if you arrive by lines 8 or 9, there is indeed a Boulevard Saint Martin exit at one end of the platforms. If you arrive via another line don't worry, look at the neighborhood map as said above. The station isn't that huge, there can't be more than 1/4 mile between the exits that are furthest apart.
