Questions about CDG

We are traveling to France for the first time and have a few questions about CDG and would appreciate any help or suggestions.

My understanding is that upon arrival at CDG we will go through passport control and will use the PARAFE system. Is this correct and we will not have to speak to a customs officer?

Our night before departure we will be staying at the Hotel Ibis Paris near CDG. Our flight is at 11:30 am and would appreciate ideas for breakfast. Any nice spots close to the hotel or wait until we take the CDGVA to terminal 2?

We are flying American Airlines and according to the flightstat app we will be flying into and out of Terminal 2B. After exiting the CDGVA we will be closest to Terminal 2D, can we go through border control and security in Terminal 2D and after security walk to Terminal 2B or will we need to walk all the way to Terminal 2B and go through border control and security there? We will not be checking any bags.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jeff —

You may well go through the Parafe gates if they are operating. Sometimes they aren’t open, there's no way of knowing. Anyway, people with American passports get sent through after the gates to get their passport stamped by a live border police officer.

When you are departing, you have to make your way to Terminal 2B. If that's where your airline is, you can't check in at 2D. Don't worry, there will be signs directing you to 2B. (Each “subset” of 2 is in fact a different — but connected — building. ).

I would just get breakfast at your hotel. And as noted 2 D and 2B are separate terminals and each has separate passport control systems.

You may go through a machine gate and then have your passport stamped or just go through a manned booth. You just get in the line for your passport and see what happens.

Just eat at your Ibis. I’m writing this while staying in an Ibis next to the Geneva train station. There’s nothing fancy about an Ibis, but it’s an all you can eat buffet breakfast with a large selection and a lot of coffee machines.
