Hello! I will be cruising the Norwegian Epic next month around the Mediterranean and my soon-to-be-wife and I are interested in visiting Nice on a "DIY" excursion. From what I understand in my Rick Steves guide, Cannes is a Tender port, and so I would like to know if anyone who has taken the Epic can recommend the best time (or the only time?) to get off of the boat so that we can make our way to land and the Gare du Cannes, and also if this means we will have to get tender tickets early on the boat. As part of the DIY trip I'm looking to return from Nice on the 3:30 PM train arriving Cannes at 4 PM, and would like to know if this should be sufficient to return to the Epic for the scheduled 6 PM departure.
I'd also like to say thanks... I thoroughly enjoy Rick's back door tips on visiting Europe. I used the back door tips when visiting Paris a few years back, and intend to use some of them on my honeymoon (i.e. Livorno to Pisa)!
Our cruise book researcher recommends always making an effort to be on one of the first tenders. Pay attention to how long the morning tender/transport takes. Cannes train station is pretty central to the waterfront (you can see it on Google maps) so two hours sounds like enough time to get back onboard the ship.
