We are staying in Paris in early May (first week of month). We are planning an afternoon tour for Normandy. A question is do we need to book a train to Bayeux in advance? If so, how do we do that?
Thanks.

You are too late for cheap tickets; 90 days out they are 15 Euro each way -- but check on line to see what you can do now-- they are MUCH more expensive close to travel (or when the cheaper tickets run out)

We bought them on SNCF for 15 and printed them at home when we went
There are still leisure fares for 26 to 31 euro in the morning. Full fare is 40 euro, so you can still save a bit of coin.
As a percentage of the total fare, the advance discounts are significant. But since Paris-Bayeux is not a very long distance or fast train, the full fare is relatively affordable, as Sam quoted. This route does not require seat reservations. (Prices and advance savings would both be higher for a longer, faster, reserved trip like Paris-Nice by TGV.)
