We are taking the Viking river cruise from Paris in mid-June.. The boat docks in Le Pecq. There are shuttles into the city available, but slow, traffic, etc. The RER A station at Saint-Germain-en-Laye is less than a mile walk. Is it generally safe to take the RER A line back to Saint-Germain-en-Laye after dinner and walk to the quai in Le Pecq? Thanks!
Just to mention that our Viking ship, many years ago, moved between docks while we were at the theater in St. Petersburg. Make sure the front desk gives you contact information and tells you whether there is the slightest chance they will move.
I have not done the walk you describe, but on Google Earth photos, the area looks safe to me. There's a city hall, some universities. I would take the Paris Metro and RER at any time of day or night. Look up the train times, however. The RER is not as frequent as the Metro.
Thanks Tim!!
I haven’t done this specific walk either but I know St Germain-en-Laye well and have walked all over in this area many times, it’s a very nice, safe town and I would have no hesitation doing this specific walk.
It sounds like you will be there before taking the RER into Paris which will give you an opportunity to see the area and see how it feels to you.
You can also get a taxi from the RER station to your boat very easily if, for whatever reason, you decide you don’t want to walk.
I was there in the RER station in St Germain-en-Laye at the beginning of May, ie, as a day trip from Paris. No problems.
It is a very nice town, well maintained, historical (that's one reason why I went, ie, because of 1919 there), has a reputation to uphold, packed with locals, kids from the schools, quite different, quite pleasant, and other French tourists.
