Hello everyone,
I am searching for the quaint and old, and medieval (if possible) along the way from Autun (Thanks for tip Bets!) and Bonnieux or the upper Luberon. Possibly 2 and half hours north of Bonnieux if possible, just approximately. I am splitting my driving days in 2 to 3 hour drives.
Any suggestions for quaint and cute like Mirmande or Autun style? You see what I am looking for.. thanks you all!
Deb :)
Try Vienne. It has Roman and early Christian sites to see. Another of my favorites.
La Coste or what’s left of it is visible from Bonnieux.
Autun is famous for its Roman ruins. Other such ruins are in Lyon, Vienne, St Remy en Provence, Narbonne, Orange, Arles, and Nimes. The latter two having amphitheaters like mini versions of the Flavian amphitheater in Rome (coliseum). I think Nimes is best. There is also Pont du Gard.
Avignon has a ton of 14th century history, Arles also had Van Goigh museum and famous painting sites
Thank you guys!
Any other suggestions on a "smaller size type of village"? These places you mention look awesome, like Vienne, but I am looking for that small and quaint village feel. Like Lacoste that you mention, that was perfect, but too close to Bonnieux, I am looking for something closer to Lyon to stop on the way down. About 2 to 3 hours to Bonnieux.
Thank so much this is great help!

Pont en Royans fits your search, I think. And the surrounding Vercors region is worth a drive if you are not afraid of heights (check out Combe Laval, at the very least).
Pérouges and Crémieu, closer to Lyon, would also fit the bill (Pérouges being my preference out of the two), but the surrounding areas are not scenic.
Edited, Crémieu sans x
Thanks so much!!

Perouges is in the wrong direction, but you really should look into it while you are in this area.
We enjoyed Goult and Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Both small, beautiful, walkable villages.
