all,
I'll be in Paris for 10 days, I bought some hop-on/hop-off tickets, but I want the flexibility to use public transportation (bus), as a backup.
I understand that Paris has done away with paper tickets for public transportation.
I understand that I can purchase a Navigo Easy card at metro stations or Tabacs for 2 Euro.
Buy the card, and add monies to the card as needed, much , probably from the metro station? Like, DC's metro farecard.
Do you have to take a photo? (That's per Rick's 2017 guidebook).
Most people put an app on their phone and pay that way....that's not for me.
Has anyone had success with this? Thank you.
Navigo easy does not require a photo. Simply purchase from a ticket machine in any metro station and load your bus tickets at the same time. Very easy. If worried, there are you tube videos showing how to use machine.
You can buy bus ticket at a machine using you credit card or you can use the app on your phone to do that. No photos needed for Navigo Easy.
It is the Navigo Découverte card (5€), that requires name and photo, not the Navigo Easy card. The ND card is used for passes, the Easy card is used for tickets. You can use either card for the Day pass (12€).
If you want to ride the city bus, the electronic bus ticket is 2€ when loaded onto the Easy card. If you do not have an Easy card, you can still board a city bus using a credit card (Visa/MC) but the fare will be 2.50€.
In point form:
Buy a N. Easy card for E2 at just about every Metro Station.
Some are small and have no service desk.
Every station has ticket machines, which are easy to use.
Load some bus and some Metro tickets onto your N.Easy card.
You can get a printout of how many are on there, or for how many are left as your days go by.
Bus tx are E2, Metro tx are E2.50.
You can put both on one N.E. Card, or get two N.E. Cards…..one for each, to keep it all straight.
I don’t use apps or watches for tickets either…….I just find it easier to have an actual ticket card.
Be sure to at least get the CityMapper app to get directions, and realtime instructions, delays, routes etc.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
Are the bus and metro tickets interchangeable? I read they were.
