Purchasing a Navigo Decouverte at CDG?

Hi, has anyone done this recently? I’ve read older
Posts and was wondering if anything has changed regarding purchasing the ND. I think the place to buy one is by the Starbucks at terminal 2?
But…we only need tickets for Friday through Sunday. So if I’m buying a ND on a Friday morning when our plane arrives, will it start on Monday? ( I’ve read they start on Monday through the following Sunday.) I need it to start on the day we arrive. Each day we have tickets for events around Paris.
Maybe this isn’t the best ticket for us?

Thanks for any help.

The Navigo Easy (2€) and the Navigo Découverte (5€) are blank cards. The Easy may contain a day pass, tickets t+, or airport bus tickets. The Découverte accepts all passes and is user specific.

If you want to use public transportation from Friday through Sunday, here are your options:

  1. Individual tickets - RER ticket from CDG to Paris - 11.85€, tickets t+ for the bus, métro, funicular, tramway - 2.15€.

  2. Passes - either multiple day passes or a 3-day Paris Visite Passe. Passes are priced by the zones they cover and by the number of days for which they are valid. There are many options. A 3 day, zone 1-5 Paris Visite Passe is 62.30€. A zone 1-5 Navigo Day pass is 20.60€, a zone 1-2 Navigo Day pass is 8.65€.

It all depends upon the coverage you need and when. Any of these card/fares may be purchased at either the sales kiosks or service windows found at terminal 2 or Roissypôle (near terminal 3).

You cannot buy a Navigo Decouverte on Friday or recharge a pass card on Friday for the current week. Any weekly ticket you put on it will start the following Monday.

This is not a possible ticket for you.

I would get a Navigo Easy and load it with 10 metro/bus tickets for your weekend in Paris and buy individual tickets on the RER from the airport into town; this is about 12 Euro each.

You can buy a Navigo Découverte any time you like (5€), but a weekly Navigo pass purchased on Friday does not become usable until Monday.

Ok. I’m glad I ask this question before we arrived.

So if the 3 areas we are going to are in the 1st, 4th, 9th and 20th arrondissement…..then an Easy ticket we can fill with 10 tickets each for Zones 1 and 2 will work for us?

I’ve been to Paris before, but only on another tour. I’ve never had to figure this out by myself before. I appreciate everyone’s responses and help.

Also, we will be using a taxi from the airport if that makes a difference in our ticket choices. Thanks.

Other than riding outside zone 1 (Paris) on the RER using a ticket t+, which is a 50€ fine, zones only apply to passes, not to tickets.

The ticket t+ is valid for travel anywhere on the métro (other than Métro 14 to ORY), bus (other than airport buses), tramway, and funicular. Paper tickets t+ cost 2.15€, electronic tickets may be purchased in groups of 10 for 17.35€.

Very unlikely that you'll need more than a group of tickets t+.

All Paris is Zone 1 and anywhere the metro goes including Zone 3 is included; if you use the RER to go beyond Zone 1 you will have giant fine problems.

The taxi is a great way to get in from the airport and has the fixed prices of 56/65 depending on the side of the river you are going to. You can just get the Easy from a metro stop near your hotel and avoid the lines at the airport.

You don't say when you're arriving. You should know that ticket prices will increase compared to usual prices for the duration of the 2024 Olympics. The surcharge will be effective from 20 July to 8 September 2024. Single metro tickets will rise from €2.10 to €4, and a book of ten tickets from €16.90 to €32.

I think I get it now. Thanks for everyone’s help, your knowledge will make our trip much easier.
We’re arriving July 12 and leaving the 20th, so we might avoid ticket price increases, but probably not the crowds.

Not sure, but I think tickets purchased before July 20 can still be used. I guess you will find out on July 20.

Yes, I can confirm that tickets purchased ahead of July 20 can be used during the time when they are hiking the prices.

They are hiking the prices to encourage people NOT to buy individual tickets during that period (July 20 through September 8 or 18, I forget which) and jamming up the queues at the ticket machines and windows during the Olympics and Paralympics.

The RATP and Ile-de-Francr Mobilités sites both specifically encourage people to stock up on the cheaper/regular tickets ahead of time while they can.
