Purchase train tickets now or on arrival?

We are scheduled to arrive in Paris (CDG) mid-week in late February and are then taking train to Caen. We will take a taxi from the airport to the train station. I'm hesitant to purchase tickets ahead of time because of concern re: possible late arrival in Paris etc, and yet we certainly don't want to end up not being able to catch a train to Caen that day. I believe trains run almost hourly all day to Caen. How likely might they be sold out, if anyone knows? Thanks!

I went to the www.sncf-connect.com website and did a search for fares for tomorrow as well as in the month. They are the same (different fares for different times of day), so you really do not need to buy ahead. I do recommend you download the SNCF app for each person and just buy when you get to the Saint-Lazare train station. You can also use the machines but to me it's much easier on the app.
