I have made the journey years ago and picked up a public bus at the bus stop near near Place Messina. Don’t remember the name of the public bus company or the Route Number (bus number) Please advise. I am planning to go again this fall to Nice and would like to go again. Also what bus

The website lignesdazur.com will give you all you need to know about routes, bus numbers, and transit times. If you think you're going to need a hard copy schedule, try to print it before going. The station at Place Messina didn't stock them when we were there.

For these scenarios, I always put the starting and destination in Rome2Rio.com. It give the bus numbers and company name. From that info, I go to that specific bus company as shared above to get the current schedules.
