PSG soccer/Messi

My 11yo grandson is heartbroken!!! L Messi has been his hero since he was 5yo. I finally agreed to take my grandson and three other grandchildren to a PSG soccer game , specifically to see Messi. We are traveling from Maine, USA to Paris, 5,000+ miles. Yesterday it was announced that Messi has been suspended, not playing the date of our tickets. My grandson is devastated, so, so sad. He cries himself to sleep.
Any thoughts of comforting Messi things to do in Paris?

One word two syllables: Disneyland

Seriously tell them to become Neymar fans. He's just as good if not better.

I'm sure the excitement of being there in person will ease the pain.

There’s never any guarantee of seeing any particular player as even if they’re not injured or suspended they can be rested for easier games, so really it was a very rash promise to make.. Hopefully with Messi and Neymar out he will see Mbappe who is the 2nd best player in the world. So not too bad.

Go to the game! If you can tour the stadium they most likely have Messi (and other team member) memorabilia on display for photo opps. In addition. you might visit the locker room and field. We have toured Camp Nou and The Emirates and have enjoyed them. Usually the jerseys are hanging up in the locker room too.
A game is very exciting so that may help ease the pain.

Great news!

French press is reporting this afternoon that due to Messi’s recorded public apology, PSG has cut short his suspension (to time “already served”) and he is back in training with the team.

I’m not sure which game you all are planing on going to, but they say that he may play Saturday at Parc des Princes against Ajaccio.

So at least there’s a possibility !!

(I mean, my view on Messi is absolutely agnostic since I am a huge Mbappe fan, but if Messi comes back and your grandson can see him, I will be really pleased for you !)

My grandson is at school so I sent him a text with the news. I'm sure he's dancing on his desktop. So much for learning.
Again, you are the best! TY.

Even if he ends up not playing, attending the game will be an experience he will never forget. I’m excited for you both! I get the feeling your grandson might walk out in a PSG kit.

Still, things are a bit complicated and downright salty with supporters these days. They see the club as dramatically underachieving, with a policy of collecting superstars over an actual football strategy. Messi and Neymar have become talismans in the regard. It’s an interesting read: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/may/04/mediocre-results-and-mobs-outside-neymars-house-psg-hit-crisis-point

An apology and a $50 Starbucks gift card for that teacher are in order.

Now let's just hope that Messi sticks around for the rest of his contract (I.e. through end of June) rather than bolting for his new team in Saudi Arabia before then.

Will you let us know the date that you have tickets for so that we can tune in to see if your grandson's dream has come true?

What a superb grandmother you are, by the way!
There are kids in Messi jerseys all over Paris. Will you have a jersey for him?
I saw Messi play in the "Clash of the Titans" (haha) in New Jersey against Ronaldo. (It really was Messi v Ronaldo) Messi was like a shark just hanging around the other fish in the sea until he struck! And strike, he did. Wow, just WOW!

Good for you Karen. Messi is one of the two best players I've ever seen. The other was also Argentinian.

"Seriously tell them to become Neymar fans. He's just as good if not better." - Maybe in video games. Otherwise, not in a million years.

Well, Messi played tonight, but apparently got whistled at /booed when his name was announced as being in the starting lineup, and then again during the match . . . the PSG fans are none too pleased with his Saudi escapades.

But, most importantly, your grandson got to see him play. Did he enjoy the match ?

Merci for your kind interest. My grandson's dream came true and I got to share it with him (and with my three other grandchildren). It was a magical, exhausting day.
