Provence with teens

Hello,

We're taking our first trip to France this June/July. We'll start with 7 days in Paris, then take the TGV to Provence (one night in Avignon, then staying near Isle sur la Sorgue with a car). We have a total of 14 days on the ground and are not sure if we should spend the rest of the trip in Provence (7 days) or if we should stay in a third location. Our teenage daughters like smaller villages and the outdoors, plus laid back exploring.

We're flying out of Paris on the way home.

Ideas? Thanks!

Well, there is certainly plenty to see and do in Provence for a week. Maybe spend a night or two in the Luberon for a change of pace. And don't spend one night in Avignon, which is so close to Isle.

Lyon is not small, but it is a wonderful city and completely enroute on the road back to Paris.

Sounds like a great trip whatever you decide.

FWIW, we had no problems staying busy during a 7-day stay in Provence, based in Sorgue. The plentiful villages are mostly unique and worth a visit; plus: Carrières de Lumières (near Les Baux); day trip to Cassis (enter via the spectacular Route d'Crete drive above the town; boat trip to the Callanques); Sunday market in Sorgue; Ochre Trail in Roussillon; the pleasant walk up to the Fontaine-de-Vaucluse near Sorgue. It's obviously a subjective and personal decision, but you're unlikely to run out of things to do. Your goal of "laid back exploring" is a good description of our memories of Provence.

Completely agree that there's more than enough to keep you busy in Provence. Get a comprehensive guidebook for the area. I haven't used Rick's book for southern France, but I understand that it has considerably more coverage of the area than the general "France" book. With a week to spend in and around Provence, it's totally worth having a dedicated book.

Lyon is great, too.
