I have never been to Provence, but am considering an itinerary that puts me there the weekend prior to Bastille Day (which falls on Tuesday July 14). Will the French take a long weekend and head to Provence? I know the lavender fields are also blooming around then, so wondering if lodging will fill and prices will skyrocket. What does "busy" look like in western provence - does traffic slow to a crawl on roads in the Luberon?
Not yet sure where we would be based, but it would either be in Aix or Arles, with a day driving around the Luberon...or staying in a village in the Luberon.
