I am planning a solo trip for this spring. Planning to fly into paris and visit Burgundy first. Then Provence. I want to head to Italy after Provence, but am wondering the best itinerary order. In Italy, I want to end in Rome, but also hit Venice and Florence/Siena. Is it more efficient to go by train from Avignon (or somewhere in that area) to Venice or Florence?
Paris >> Burgundy >> Provence
fly from Marseille to Rome (Alitalia has a midday flight)
Rome >> Florence >> Venice
Depending on whether you end your trip in western on eastern Provence, you may want to consider flying out of Nice. There is a non-stop flight on Easy Jet at around 11 AM to Venice and then in Italy, you could go from Venice to Florence to Rome.
thanks for the replies!
Has anyone done horseback riding in the camargue?
Yes to the horseback riding in Carmague. I went with a group of photographers, and some went on a jeep tour to look for the flamingos and others went on horseback. While the idea of the Carmague with the wild white horses and flamingos sounds all very romantic, it is not quite what we envisioned. One trip there were thousand of flamingos, and on another we only saw 3....
As far as the horses, from what we ended up understanding is the word 'wild' simply means they do not stay in the barn at night, not that they are running wild through the carmague. As for the horseback riding it was fine, but just a trail that was fenced by both sides... However, it was still a cool experience. We had a wonderful dinner at a ranch. It was a candlelight dinner in a bar, and the food was fantastic... it is definitely worth going and also a visit to the beach town. There was a sort of lagoon area by the sea and that is where we saw all the flamingos on the first trip.
It's probably a lot like chincoteague in Virginia.
I was thinking it might be a good and different way to see an area I haven't been to before. In that way would it fit the bill? And what company did you use for your tour?
