Provence lodging

Anyone have lodging they'd recommend in small towns in Provence that are NOT in Rick's book? Looking for a charming location, hopefully not overly pricey. Thanks - Alan from DC

We loved Hotel Sous les Figuiers in St. Remy. Feels like a B & B. A couple blocks from town center. Friendly owners, beautiful setting.

This may be too big of a place for you, and the town may be too small, but you might take a look at Maison Akette at provencesejour.com.

We rented the Aix Mirabeau from Holly for 8 nights in June 2012. She's an American and there is a US phone number to call in the contact info.

That apartment is in Aix-en-Provence, which may be too big of a town for you.

I have not been there - we very reluctantly took it off our itinerary as it was too far out of our way - but Le Clos des Amandiers in the village of Simiane-la-Rotonde looks wonderful, as does the village itself. The prices were good too.
