Provence itinerary

Heading to Provence in May. Will arrive at Avignon TGV on a Sunday (straight off a long flight), We have 4 nights to spend there. I was thinking about 2 nights Arles, and 2 nights in Isle de la Sorgue, (trying to mix a city with a small town) but also want to daytrip to the Calanques from Marseille. I don't think the distance is a problem just that we'd be switching hotels that day and would have luggage with us. Keep reading about not leaving anything valuable in a rental car.

We could alternately stay in Arles and then St. Remy which would provide opportunity to drop luggage off at hotel on way down to Marseille. I just like the idea of the river in Isle de la Sorgue.

Or we could stay all 4 nights in St. Remy?

Any suggestions?

Sometimes if can't be avoided to leave valuables in a car. We travelled with luggage in ours while changing towns. If you are lucky, the car will have a trunk, so items will be out of sight (and another reason not to travel with such big bags that everything won't fit in the trunk). Try not to leave things like maps or expensive looking items in the back/front seat (which you should really do anywhere).

Barring that, just make sure you try and park somewhere well lit/trafficked - don't park way down at the dark, empty corner of a parking lot or in an empty section of a parking garage. (if worse comes to worst - park beside a really expensive car...said tongue in cheek).

I prefer to stay in one place and do day trips, so I would recommend St Remy. Also, since you only have four days, I'd skip the Calanques and just concentrate on central Provence--there's so much to see there.
