Provence - Hotel Locations - In Town or Outside of Saint Remy

Hi -- My wife and I are planning 5 nights in Saint Remy in June and trying to figure out if it's preferable to stay in the town center. We've always liked being able to walk around after breakfast and dinner when it might be a little quieter before the day-trippers arrive or after they've left. Plus, we won't have the hassle of looking for parking. But, on the other hand, there seem to be a bunch of nice villages nearby with beautiful hotels and B&Bs so I'm torn as to where to focus. Thanks!

We stayed here in 2018

Just at edge of town, easy 10 min walk to center
Safe, private secure parking on site
Beautiful grounds, lovely comfortable rooms and a fantastic pool that was hugely appreciated during the heat wave we experienced

Thanks for your reply. Appreciate the recommendation. However, I'm less interested in specific hotels and more interested in whether we should stay in the center of town vs. in the outskirts.

Which other villages are you considering?

You’ve basically answered your own question- if you like to wander in town morning and after dinner-stay in or close to town - or you’ll have parking to deal with

Parking in St Remy is certainly an issue, and impossible on market days. Have the best of both worlds and stay in town at accommodations that provide parking. Walking to dinner enables you to finish the wine without the driving hazard.

St Rémy was our favorite town in all of Provence, loved it. Super charming, great shops, good cafés and restaurants. We stayed in town and were extremely happy we did, loved being able to walk all over town from our hotel. We were there for a week in Sept, 2019, which was pre-Covid. it was not crowded with tourists at all. Parking in town was never a problem, even on market days.

We have stayed in town on both of our visits to St Remy. The hotel we have used is on the ring road and has on site parking. We found that this worked quite well for us - we’d go off during the day to explore nearby towns and then return to St Remy, park, and walk to the local restaurants with no worries of driving in the dark or having that extra glass of wine.
