I'm planning a trip to Provence and would appreciate any input on which "Hill" towns aren't too hilly, rather mostly flat. I am not able to walk up any steep hills but want to see Provence villages. I am aware of Lourmarin. Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot
Maybe Martel and Brantome. But I'm sure others will have other suggestions. I was using public transportation, so I was limited in my ability to get to really small places.
We stayed in Saint Remy de Provence. I don't remember it being hilly at all, not like some other towns in Provence. The town is very central and the market is incredible, the best we have ever visited in Provence. Enjoy your trip!
Thanks for your replies
Anyone have suggestions about where the best photo ops are? And, where/when to shoot them. I know about Gordes
I was in Gordes last October and it was a little difficult for me to get around, although I managed. I am in my late 70's and sometimes use a cane because of a wonky knee. I don't recall which was worse going up or coming down, but I do remember I felt like I was mainly looking at the ground to be sure I didn't trip on a cobblestone or something. I did enjoy that day though and it has an incredible view whenever I stopped to rest & enjoy it.
Lourmarin is quite flat indeed, you are correct. There is a vague hill west of the main street but there is no real need to venture there.
l'Isle sur la Sorgue is very flat too.
Hill towns are just that-hilly. We were in Gordes in June, very hilly, some steep. Rousillon too. Apt might be ok but not much to see there. Saignon or Salon de Provence might work. Eygalieres is beautiful for drink at cafe and people watching. Isle Sur La Sorgue might do, but crowded on Sun. Market Day as is St. Remy.
Any town in Provence is great if you can get to a cafe to sit and relax.
Good Luck!
Thanks so much for the replies.
