My wife and I are planning a trip in early Sep 2017 to Provence France area and would like to stay in a B&B. We appreciate any recommendations you may have.
In the summer of 2015, we stayed at Place du Palais des Papes. I read about this B&B in one of my guide books, and it was a wonderful find. The location must surely be the best in Avignon, as the apartment looks out directly onto the terrace in front of the Palace of the Popes. In the evenings, we could hear the music outside through our open windows. On our arrival, our hostess, Sabine Ferrand, welcomed us and made us feel at home immediately. She made dinner reservations several times during our stay. Be aware that not all of the bathrooms are en suite. Ask to make sure yours is, if that is an issue for you.
Mas du Petit Grava - https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187211-d617170-Reviews-Mas_Du_Petit_Grava-Arles_Bouches_du_Rhone_Provence.html - just outside of Arles. Absolutely wonderful....my husband and I stayed there in 2013 and I would go back in a heartbeat. We found it in Rick's France guidebook, checked it out on TripAdvisor, and booked it. We are so glad that we did.
We really enjoyed Maison Boussingault in Avignon. Highly recommend.
If you happen to go as far east as Reillane in the Luberon, I strongly recommend the Auberge de Reillane, as do many others both Anglophone and Francophone. I discovered this place on a walking holiday booked through InnTravel, which I also recommend, though you could also base yourselves here for exploring by car.
Do not stay at Hotel Le Castelet des Alpiles in St Remy. It's recommended in the RS Provence guide but it sucks. Paper-thin walls and lousy food.
