Provence!

We are a family of 4- two adults and two teens (17/18), looking for itinerary advice and restaurant recommendations for Provence.

Location- Mouries, will be staying here the whole time (central to Aix En Provence, Gordes, Arles and St Remy de Provence)

7 full days, beginning of July 2024

We love nature, great local culture, historical sites and great food.

We will be taking day trips from our base and will have a car.

Looking for some spectacular scenery and food!

Thank you!

I will also be in Provence in early July. Since I have never traveled there I have been combing this forum and Provence websites to get ideas. One place I definitely want to go is Roussillon. Your teens would likely love to hike around that area. Good luck with your planning!

deeptigirvin,
Check the RS guidebook for ideas of things to see and do, or search this site on the forum. My must-sees (and we all have preferences) for a first-time visitor, are Les Beaux, Vaison-la-Romaine, Arles (Roman sights), St. Remy de Provence, Nimes. Arles and Nimes both have Roman amphitheaters. I prefer the one in Arles, but I would visit Nimes also. The local culture will be everywhere, and so will great food. For nature, you could visit the Camargue region or the Calanques near Marseille, or the Alpilles park.
With 7 full days, you will have more things to choose from than you will have time for. You will have to pick and choose.
Enjoy!

We stayed in nearby Mausanne two summers ago. You will love the area. The tourist information website is great. Look for local festivals. There are many. https://www.alpillesenprovence.com/

Other good sources of information for the area are blogs and books by Keith Van Sickle and the website and newsletter by aixcentric.

Your teens might enjoy the electric bike tour we did with Sun E Bikes. We did from Bonnieux. But they have other locations too.

Enjoy the planning!

We stayed in Arles and enjoyed walking around the Roman sites and even the museum. It wasn't crowded in late June. We also enjoyed our day on electric bikes from Orange, along the river on a bike path and past vineyards on farm roads. If we had had a car, we probably would have rented canoes near/past Pont de Gard.

You are getting good advice. The RS guidebook covers the area thoroughly. Don't forget to add the Pont du Gard to everything mentioned. There is plenty to see and do in Provence, you will have to sort through to select what is the best for you and yours.
