We (three adults and two teens) will be arriving to Paris (transatlantic flight) and are confused as to how to plan just over a week in the French Riviera and Provence. We have been to Paris before. This will be our first time in the South. So we're thinking of:
* Dividing our time between Nice or Avignon as a base for the French Riviera region and using public transport for that part of the trip
* And then for inland Provence. renting a car, and using St. Remy/Luberon/a whole host of other wonderful suggestions that you may have (Aix/Arles/etc.)
Does this sound do-able and would you recommend it?
We're not sure which part to go to first. I thought that we should first head to Nice and stay there for a few days to get over our jet lag and get acclimated; followed by inland Provence with the car rental. My husband says that the train ride from Paris to Nice will be exhausting.
Would you even recommend dividing our time, or do you think it's better to just stay in one place? If so, where? Personally, I would be fully content to just stay in Provence, but I'm quite sure that the rest of the family wants to see the Riviera and all of that. Just to see it, not that they're into much of that either. A bucket list sort of thing.
In case you're interested, after Provence/Nice, we then head to Lyon for two nights, Mt. Saint Michel for one night, and Paris for a few nights.
Any suggestions and/or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ever so much.
