My husband and I have r/t tickets to Barcelona arriving the last week in April and returning on May 9th. We plan some days in Barcelona and then plan to drive around Provence - I was thinking of staying in St. Remy and driving from there - also want to see Cassis. My main question is do we need reservations wherever we go or is it possible to just find a place spontaneously? I have been focusing on mainly airbnb places and spending approx $100 per night? We are very unclear how much time to allot in each area as they both look wonderful. Any help very welcome
So are you thinking train to Provence, say Avignon, then touring by car?
In April you will always be able to find a room somewhere. I have stayed in St Remy many times...love it. You will just have to be flexible if certain hotels are booked, but I travel this way a lot.
My wife and I stayed in Lacoste this past May and enjoyed Caron and Finn's apartment as a homebase. It's a bit slower pace than St. Remy and has a nice balcony with a view. We day-tripped to Gordes for the weekly market, Lourmarin, Roussillon, Pont Julien, St. Remy, and the Côtes du Rhône villages. We also stayed a few nights in the heart of Roman Town in Nimes which has an awesome arena and other Roman ruins, and is in easy striking distance to Orange and Pont du Gard.
I will be staying next week at an apartment in St. Remy. I booked it through airbnb and it is less than $100 per night. If you would like further information just let me know.
