We would like to rent a home in the Provence area for the summer. We'd like a small town where we could assimilate in the French culture and where our teenage girls would be able to explore the town safely on foot. We would like to be close enough to take day trips to the beach and other interesting areas. Any suggestions? Thank you!
We rented a great house in L'Isle sur la Sorgue one summer. You may like that location. It's about 2 hours to the beach, which we did as day trips twice in a month. The house we rented had a lovely unheated pool and backed out on one of the branches of the Sorgue so my children were not hankering for frequent beach trips.
You might want to check into France Homestyle. We rented a house for a week in Lourmarin a few years ago and were very satisfied with France Homestyle.
This apartment is in the very south of France near the Spanish border and only half an hour from the coast – well worth considering.
If you are not limited to Provence and not willing to look at Languedoc-Roussilon as suggested by another responder, take a look at the town of Pezenas. I have not stayed there but plan to on my next trip to that area of France.
