Proper dress for Chamonix in August

Hello all.

My wife and I will be travelling to Chamonix at the end of August, and I was wondering how warm we will need to dress for travelling/hiking in the mountains. Is one wool sweater (medium thickness) good enough, or should we be prepared for colder weather? Keep in mind that we don't intend on hiking up to the highest peaks, just some hikes of moderate difficulty and altitude.

Thanks,
Jan

Most likely it will be quite warm but you could also encounter rain. If it rains then it usually clears up within the same day. Sometimes a front will come in that lasts a couple of days. Just make sure to check the weather right before you leave and again before you go out to hike. I always dress in layers when hiking in the alps. Tank top, lightweight long sleeved shirt, and a rain jacket (with a hood) with a light lining of fleece for warmth just in case.

Thanks for the reply.. It seems that I won't need a heavy sweater (yay!). I always come prepared to hike in layers - been burned too many times not to ;)
