We're planning a day-trip to the Champagne region. We would like to hire a private guide (who speaks English, of course). Any recommendations?

It's easy to do on your own. There are two TI's in Reims, one at the train station and one at the Cathedral, which has longer hours. Pick up a city map there and get information on tours of the various champagne caves in town. They will also help you book tours. Reims is the better choice for a day trip because it has more sights and more cave visits.
