Private car from CDG and tipping

My partner and I decided to hire a private car (arranged through our hotel) from CDG to the the hotel. We have a set fare for both of us. Is tipping the driver of a private car appropriate? I have seen conflicting opinions on when and when not to tip in Paris . Any advice?

Tipping is not necessary but is at your discretion. There's no more reason to tip a private driver than there would be to tip a taxi driver. They're both doing the same job. I don't know why you hired a private driver because taxis are readily available at CDG with a fixed fare of €55 to the right bank and €62 to the left bank. Hopefully you're not paying more than these fares.

We were quoted 90 euro for a private car to the airport from 5th which seems very high to me. We plan on getting a taxi instead, hopefully that isn’t an issue (in Rome we had a crazy taxi driver and we were sorry we didn’t do a car hire there).

There is no requirement for you to tip. I sometimes go with the private car alternative from CDG and I do not tip or round up. For taxis, I usually pay cash and round up to 60€.
