Do you have to prebook your parking at Mont St. Michel? I just purchased 3pm tickets to the Abbey and saw that they sell timed parking spots too. However the available options start at 8am with 15 min increments and then a large break between 930am and 330pm.
Do you have to book 1 of these or will there be other places to park? We will have a 9 pax van.

I have not been there recently, but the parking lots are vast. There are shuttle busses, or you can walk from the farthest reaches. You pay just before leaving, so as not to jam up the few exit gates. That is, you insert a PAID ticket, not an UNPAID ticket.
The largest part of the lot (leading to the bus spaces, for example) eventually transitions to a wide pedestrian sidewalk, maybe 1/3 or 1/2 mile, leading to the short causeway and the Mont. There are supermarket and snack options, and a number of chain motels, that are "off-island" lodging.
Thanks for your reply. I had found a website that seemed to allow a time entry for the parking lots. Now, I'm not sure it's a thing. Do you think we can just arrive in the early afternoon and we'll find a spot?

It's a 4000 space lot. Maybe it's different for large vans. I would think they would direct you to a designated area for larger vehicles if necessary. There were lot attendants. It's not like there are other options for parking. You park in the lot.

I will add that if you are staying on the island, your hotel may have a coupon for the closer, hourly lot that allows you to park for free. Inquire ahead of time as you will need to enter a code to get in there without having to use a credit card (that lot is more expensive as I recall). At least this was the case a few years ago when I stayed there.
