What does the forum expect post-Olympics (they end August 11) travel will be like in France? My wife and I are planning a trip to France in September of 2024. We will spend three weeks in France with the last week in Paris. We will do this on our own. I will create the itinerary and arrange all transportation and accommodations. Can we expect prices to be inflated and crowds greater or will things be similar to other years when Paris is not hosting the Olympics?
Once the 2024 Summer Olympics end on August 11 preparations will be made in Paris to host the 2024 Paralympic Games. More than 4,000 athletes are expected to compete in the games between August 28 and September 8.
Paris Fashion Week will be held from September 23-October 1, 2024.
I'm going for about 4 weeks starting the 1st week of October. I've looked at my usual hotels and see a bit of a drop in pricing from Sept to October. I would expect in September you will have the usual higher hotel rates due to conventions/Paris Fashion week but not as awful as July and August for the Olympics.
My view is Paris is always busy. I avoid crowds by getting to main museum early with a timed entry ticket. We (forum members) can give you some input if you are interested.
I also noted that the hotel rates for a smaller town in the Loire Valley the 1st week of October is more than half the price of my Paris hotels.
IF you have any choice in the dates, I'd go as far in to September as you can.
September is always the busiest (and most expensive) month in Paris due to Fashion Week (well, really Fashion Weeks) and some conventions.
