We are flying from California to Paris with a 6-hour layover at JFK and expect to be exhausted upon arriving at CDG. We are giving ourselves 2 days to recuperate in either Chantilly or Fountainbleu followed by a train ride back to Paris and then heading east. Disregarding the distance each is from Paris and CDG, I would appreciate opinions about each town. Each has a chateau that we may decide to visit. Is one more walkable for the jet-lagged? TIA
I know you ask us to disregard the distance, but CDG to Fontainebleau would be a very expensive taxi ride (I guess 150€) or an exhausting cross-Paris transit journey. I would opt for Chantilly for that reason alone. Chantilly itself is a relatively quick visit (there is less to the town than in Fontainebleau), but you can do a half-day trip to nearby Senlis as well, it is lovely!
Find a swimming pool. Your body and legs will thank you!
Bonjour Cindy!
The Ibis Fontainebleau has a noon check-in time and it may be possible to access your room as early as 11am per an email I received from management. We are looking forward to walking the gardens after a nap.

Re: your long layover at JFK (ours is 5.5 hours)
Think about leaving the main terminal to have a look-see and a meal at the TWA hotel! It does mean going back through security, but hopefully you have TSA precheck to ease your way. It is more than just a hotel with exhibits and history of the iconic terminal opened in 1962. We are planning on lunch at the Paris Cafe there- what a way to begin the flight to Paris!!
