On Sept. 25, the Pope will preside over vespers at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame and take part in an evening event with young people; on the 26th, he will celebrate an open-air Mass in Paris; on the 27th, he will celebrate the Eucharist at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes; and on the 28th, he will preside over Mass at Metz Cathedral.

Well, good thing I planned to be out of town, as it will certainly be a mess to get around!

That would be so cool to see him, janet—thanks!

I'm a lapsed Catholic, but I still have a lot of respect for Pope Leo and like him a lot. Back in 1997, I was in Rome and touched the hand of Pope John Paul II, who was on his popemobile. The woman next to me and I were so excited that we were practically screaming. 😂

I'm also a lapsed Catholic but seeing him at the Papal audience in Rome last month was a highlight of my trip! It would be interesting how crowd control and security will be handled. I like Pope Leo and hopefully he can bring the youth back into the church.

I have to admit I’m rather excited to read this. However, my daughter and I only have 2-1/2 days - September 23rd-26th - in Paris (first timers) and in my “plan” I have the evening Mass at Notre Dame for Friday the 25th. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The open air Mass on the 26th will be a real traffic jam I would think. Lots of bodies streaming in, lots of security etc. And they still haven’t decided the venue.

He's also visiting UNESCO headquarters. Or at least that is what the first reports said was an important element of his trip.

Having been a part of two papal visits in DC, it'll be well organized. I was fortunate to have a lawn ticket to hear Pope Francis speak. Many snowplows blocking off streets, workers and residents know to take transit or stay home, closures are announced in advance, mailboxes were locked, and security was specific to the locations where he spoke. Later that afternoon, I just happened to step out of my office when his little Fiat drove by--of course the exact route of travel wasn't advertised.

In brief, I know DC's not Paris, but these are large cities used to hosting major events, and residents and visitors alike learn to roll with it.
