A year ago we planned a 9/24 to 9/27 trip to Paris. We have learned the Pope will be there the exact same time with many road closures around our hotel limiting transportation options. Cancellations would involve considerable expense. We are looking for any input regarding this unforeseen situation.
There have been several posts here on the Pope's visit to Paris in the last few Here are a couple with links for more info.
Suggestions for one day in Paris
Where is your hotel located?
I am sure that right now it looks like a less than optimal situation if you are just hoping
for a long weekend in Paris. But also keep in mind that there are probably millions of
people who would like to be there and that cannot make it, not to mention that hotels
are probably jacking up prices as well.
First of all, contact the hotel and see what they have planned for the time of the visit
so that guests are not overly inconvenienced.
I'd also check to see what rooms at the hotel (if available) are going for that weekend,
they may accommodate a cancellation if they can see that they can make a lot more
$$$ re-renting the room at little or no cost to you. Especially if it is a US chain hotel,
they may consider moving the reservation to another hotel also.
But that implies you have a plan B up your sleeve.
Finally, there have to be a lot of places in Paris you can visit and hardly even be aware
that the Pope is there as well.
We arrive 24th by train. We leave 27th at CDG. We are staying on Rue Jean Goujon. Will taxi be affected in and out?
As shoeflyer suggests, contact your hotel regarding the transportation situation. They will know how the road closures will affect taxis, metro and buses.
Vikki,
I am a big fan of Pope Leo XIV, but, fwie, I bet the number of people in Paris to see the pope is smaller than the number would be to see Taylor Swift. I hope your visit to Paris isn't too disrupted. Have fun!
fwiw, not fwie!
Thank you all for the feedback , i am not Catholic but also a big fan of Pope Leo. I actually thought it was awesome to be there the same time. I have written the hotel and the tour group we booked with for a day trip. Not sure what to expect yet. Sounds like the taxi service will be affected to the hotel from the train, and we have luggage, just trying to be positive about everything, so happy to see Paris for the first time.
