Our travels wii take us to Pontarlier for 3 days. Any ideas for enjoying the area? Hiking perhaps.

Try to get your hands on a copy of the Jura "Green Guide". It will list all sort of excursions! I have a copy from the 1950s somewhere, the mountains haven't moved much.
A few options off the top of my head;
The Source de la Loue is close to Pontarlier and is apparently a very impressive resurgence - not been, only went to the similar but smaller source du Lison. Don't go in a drought. The lake at Malbuisson is lovely, I've driven by on my way to Switzerland once. And Chasseron in Switzerland is an easy hike with amazing views!
