If you’re not interested in the typical solution favoured by run-of-the-mill tourists who pay to park their cars near the Information Centre, why not opt for a walk through the beautiful countryside?

Park your car for free at the town hall (la mairie) in Saint-Bonnet-du-Gard and follow the signs to the Pont-du-Gard.
You can walk across the bridge for free (not on the third level, which is only accessible with a paid guide). You can decide for yourself whether a visit to the Information Centre is necessary for you.
You can return via a different loop, and if you wish, you can take an additional loop north of the bridge itself.
For all information about this walking route, search for
Le Pont du Gard Trail PR 41.

Another option is by kayak or canoe. There are several rental companies in Collias, a village 8 km upstream. From there, you can paddle to the Pont du Gard in two hours. Along the way, you’ll pass several small beaches along the river where you can swim or sunbathe. The kayak hire companies will pick you up again at a collection point a few hundred metres past the bridge. Please note, however, that in summer the water level in the river may be too low for trips.

Enjoy your visit...whichever method you choose.

Windyram's suggestion to park in town and walk to the aqueduct had never occurred to us, and it sounds delightful. If you have the extra time for the walk (Google Maps says 48 minutes each way), I say go for it. Note that you're going to have to walk from your car and back anyway, and the walk from town is no doubt nicer.

On a separate note, if we ever visit again, we'd pay to do the guided tour across the top level.

Not sure if you are referring to how to get there or how best to see it once there, but we took the local bus to the PdG from Uzes very easily. We toured the museum and then paid for an official tour that included a walk across the very top level of the bridge, where the water once flowed. We were only able to join a French tour but it was still incredible and I would highly recommend it!

On the way back, we waited and waited for the scheduled bus to arrive but when it still hadn't shown up after about 45 minutes, we gave up and ordered an Uber. Just as we were crossing the road to the pick up point to catch the Uber, along came our bus and drove right past the now deserted bus stop where we had just been waiting for so long! Despite the fact that the Uber wasn't cheap, we had a good laugh and remarked at how grateful we were to be in a position in our lives that we could afford such mishaps. On top of it, we had a lovely conversation with our Uber driver, so all's well that ends well.

I hope you make it to the Point du Gard no matter how you get there......it was fantastic in my opinion and well worth the effort and cost of getting there and paying for a tour!

Like Sue, I also took the bus from Uzes. It was the same #115 noted and linked by Windyram but in the opposite direction from Avignon (the stop is on the opposite side of the roundabout). My bus returning to Uzes was also late, but only by about 15 minutes. However, it was getting dark and I was getting concerned. Fortunately,i the bus finally arrived before I tried ride services. I did have apps for Uber and Bolt on my phone and I had the phone number for a taxi in Uzes. It is interesting to hear from Sue that the Uber came, because the Uzes tourist information center told me that none of the ride services like Uber or Bolt would work anywhere in the area. For other travelers, I guess the take away points are: the bus is easy, cheap and convenient but don't be surprised if the bus is running late and Uber is an (expensive) alternative if needed.

CD - how interesting that you had a similar experience! I'm glad that your bus finally arrived after 15 mins - I remember that roundabout well and it would not have been great to be waiting there alone and in the dark for a bus that might not come. Fortunately, I was with my sister and as we had arrived first thing in the morning, we left to catch the bus back at midday. If anything, it was almost too hot and sunny (a hard problem to have) while we waited.
I'm interested to learn that you were told that Uber, etc, would not provide service in that area. We were there in the fall of 2024, so I wonder if your visit was before or after that time?

Sue: My experience wasin October 2025. At that time, I posted a quetion about Uber and Bolt on this forum. The responses indicated that outside of large cities, sometimes it looks on the app like Uber will come but when they see where you are they decide it is not worth it but someplaces where there are many tourists, one there may be service. Pherhaps Pont-du-Gard might be one.

CD: It sounds like we may have been very lucky that we were able to get an Uber! I never looked into it ahead of time because the bus was the plan, so in this case, ignorance was bliss. I'm kind of glad I didn't know an Uber might not come as I would have stressed unnecessarily.
