I appeal to those on the ground for some additional help. (Excuse my neediness, but I am reviewing both Lascaux II and Lascaux IV sites and now have almost too much information.) JoLui, balso, acraven, Bets and janettravels44, you are all especially knowledgeble and generous in your advice and suggestions, so here goes: We have tickets for the Font de Gaume English tour at 11:30 on the 13th of June. A visit to the museum at Les Eyzies will be done that day also. We could go to the 15:30 English tour at IV the same day and spend extra time at the center there. Or we could go to II on another day (English tours at 11:00 or 11:30 and 13:30, too close to the Font de Gaume visit time.) Would visiting Lascaux II be too similar to the Font de Gaume tour? When I went to II in 2001 I was blown away and greatly moved by the experience. IV seems to be so modern that I wonder if the mystique is lost. Of course, for my 40-something kids and my grandkids, all the glorious technology will be mother's milk to them. And maybe II will be so similar to the Font de Gaume visit that they will be less moved than I would be. I hope to decide within the next few days so I can get my tickets for Lascaux II or IV. I have some flexibility on my days that second week in June. My only definites are the Marche Nocturne that takes place in Sarlat on Thursday evenings (according to the jours-de-marches website), and the Wednesday daytime market at Sarlat. Our other activities (Canoeing/kayaking on the Dordogne, visting Perigeux for the cathedral St Front, driving along the river to a few of the plus beaux villages, visiting the castles at Beynac and Castelnaud, visiting the gardens at Marqueyssac (sp?), tasting wines, pates, walnut cakes, honeys, visiting farms) can be switched around date-wise, so we are pretty flexible, except for the cave tours. I hope you can give me some information and/or suggestions that may help me.
Merci en avance pour votre avis. Seize jours au depart!
